Wait for the Lord

“6 I wait for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning — more than watchmen for the morning.” Psalm 130:6 (CSB)

Over the past two weeks I met a new friend, Psalm 130.  I want to introduce you to this friend.  In this Psalm, that I’ve slowed down and continue to meditate on, we find reminders to do what we all have to do at times; wait!  Some are waiting for their treatment plans of a recent diagnosis.  Others are waiting for the vacation they have planned.  Others for the delivery of their child, or the hope that they are pregnant.  Still more are waiting for a court date, while others are waiting for payday.  When our children move out, we can’t wait for their next visit, and while they are young we can’t wait for them to grow up. Psalm 130 gives us a great tool to help us wait.  After being reminded of God’s forgiveness and faithfulness that the Psalmist here is waiting on, they encourage us to wait for the Lord MORE THAN watchmen for the morning.

I never stopped to think about the night watchmen’s job.  The night watch has a difficult job because, especially at the time of this writing, there was no electricity - no street lights or spot lights to shine on threats and predators that intended harm for a city.  So the watchmen waited for the morning.  When the sun would rise, they could see the threats - things are typically safer in the daytime.  Additionally, the morning meant their shift was over and they could finally rest.  True deliverance would come to the watchmen in the morning.

More than a watchman waiting for the morning we are taught to wait for the Lord, and the double statement is used to emphasize the metaphor.  The questions for us are these?  Do we still believe God can forgive?  Do we still know that God is coming for us as sure as the sun will rise again in the morning?  Does our zeal to be with God and to wait for His help and our hope through His Word? The Psalmist believes all of these, and so do I, so I am growing in my ability to wait.  Will you grow with me in greater intentionality while we wait?

Waiting for the Lord,

Jeremiah Holcomb

Hello Maple View family,

May was a fantastic month, and June is shaping up to be an even more amazing month. May saw graduations, move-ups, a youth rally at Christian Acers where over 125 local youth attended, a karaoke party and most importantly the baptism of Gage Thompson.

Formation Students returns on June 8th, and also in June we kick off our “Great Outdoors” summer, as we head to The Endless Wall Trail on June 12th, and Lost World Caverns on June 19th. Another exciting thing happening in June is the beginning of our series “Lessons From Matthew” which will carry on through July as well.

It’s going to be a cool, cool summer at MV Teens. We hope your teens join us, and want to invite the parents to pop in and check us out at anytime.

Thank you for your support and prayers

Sincerely,

Eric Vance, Associate Minister of Youth
